12:22 HRS IST Kolkata, Jan 25 (PTI) Making a comeback to the small screen after several years, actor Saswata Chatterjee, known for his roles in 'Kahaani' and 'Jagga Jasoos', said he never looked upon television as an inferior sibling of the big screen. In fact, he said it was because of his small screen roles that he had been picked up by Mrinal Sen and Anurag Basu for their films. Speaking on the sets of upcoming Bengali serial 'Apur Sansar', Saswata told PTI, 'It is television which has made Saswata Chatterjee.

TV as a medium of entertainment cannot and should not be belittled by a film actor.' The established actor of the Bengali screen, said he was told by Anurag that he had wanted to cast him in a film by him ever since he watched him in a tv serial 'Ek Akasher Niche' (which was made in 2002 and was aired for couple of years). 'No, it was not for my role in Kahaani.

Anurag said he had wanted to cast me long before Kahaani (2012) happened,' the actor, who had given a memorable performance as Bob Biswas in 'Kahaani', said. 'Even Mrinal Sen took me (as Nur) in Amar Bhuban (2002) for my role in a serial,' he said.

He also acted in a Hindi serial by Saibal Mitra (1995) and in Doordarshan's Feluda telefilm series by Sandip Ray (1992). About the serial Apur Sansar (no relation to Satyajit Ray's immortal movie), Saswata said the title had references to his petname 'Apu' and his family. It is a stage comedy show with scope of improvisation which takes a peek into the crisis faced in middle class households and there will be celebrity guests like actor Indrani Halder in the show, he said. 'I love comedy and my characters in Sandip Ray's 'Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy' and Anik Dutta's 'Bhooter Bhobisyot' had comic elements and I enjoyed doing such roles. Now I am doing a comedy show for TV. Let's see how it turns out,' he said. Meanwhile, Saswata's next Bengali film is 'Chhakbaz' (fixer/schemer) where he enacts the role of a fixer who settles deals between real estate developers and ordnary people, power brokers, shady financial companies and their political masters.

Telematch was the name of a German television show broadcast during the 1970s till 1979 and based on its French counterpart Intervilles. It first consisted of a match between teams from two German towns (but the last matches were between five towns). The match was composed of several games. For each game the participants would typically dress up in costume.

Often the costumes were elaborate and designed to increase the challenge of the game by making movement awkward. Games were played against the clock, or as a race. Telematch was produced by Transtel Cologne.

It was dubbed into English, Hindi, Arabic, French and Spanish. It was shown in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Middle East, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Uruguay as well as in various South East Asian and Caribbean nations and probably other places as well. A total of 43 episodes were made before production was halted. In Spain between 1995 to 2007 TVE broadcast a show like Telematch called El Gran Prix del Verano with the same format. Currently is being shown again in Paraguay. And it is still being shown in India and gets a good viewership. Press meet of TV serial 'WAQT' Mumbai, May 6, 2008: Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya is a touching story of 'Rudra' an adopted girl who enjoys the love and affection of her father Biswajeet, who hails from one of the biggest Zamidaar families in Kolkata. However, the other family members have always considered her 'paraya' an outsider.

She yearns for mother's love but her foster mother Yashomati does not show any affection towards her. The story comes to full circle with Yashomati realizing her worth after she gets deceived by her own sons and accepting Rudra as her daughter, a daughter Yashomati has longed for. This convincing, soul stirring saga is being launched on the Indian television starting April 14th, 2008, every Monday to Thursday, 10:30 p.m. Only on Sony Entertainment Television. Commenting on the new show, Sanjay Upadhyay, Creative Director & Head of Fiction, Sony Entertainment Television, said 'Waqt Batayega is an effort to bring realistic stories to the viewer.

The core of this story is very strong and very much relevant in today's time when people are always struggling to judge who is their own and who's not. The story is a mirror to the bitter reality which still exists in our society.' 'My time is yet to come 'goes the saying. The show also explores the popular Indian belief that time is omnipotent. It is the wisest counselor and has the power to change life in an instant.

In a house that is awaiting the arrival of a girl child, arrives Rudra but all, even the mother who longed for a daughter, treats her as 'paraya'. Rudra who is treated as an outsider all her life by the family who adopt her ultimately she becomes the savior of the family. 'The subject of Waqt Batayega is very sensitive and we are glad that Sony Entertainment Television has liked the concept and we hope it touches the viewers' hearts too.

It is a very different story, in a society where male child rules, here is a family who is longing for a girl child. The show attempts to explore & understand the importance of a girl child in a family & society at large,' said Creative Eye's Dheeraj Kumar, Producer of the show. To support the strong storyline the serial has equally strong star cast backing it up.

With names like Mukesh Khanna, Kishori Shahane Viz, Nishigandha Wad, Gufi Paintal, Nayan Bhatt, Eva Grover, Payal Sarkaar in stellar roles the audience will surely enjoy watching & relating to the show. Remember Wagle Ki Duniya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Hasratein and other such fascinating television serials. All these were based on literary works and, after a long gap, Indian television is again witnessing serials based on stories by noted Hindi as well as regional writers. Some of the shows currently being shown are screen adaptation of books or short stories. They include Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Lapataganj - both on SAB TV.

Zee TV's Keshav Pandit is inspired by Ved Prakash Sharma's novel Vijay Aur Keshav Pandit. 'Books offer a wide variety of fresh and never seen before concepts for television,' says Anooj Kapoor, executive vice president and business head, SAB TV. 'We have always believed in bringing fresh stories to the small screen - whether through original ideas or literary material. But some books have an edge which works well with the audience. We are always on the lookout for concepts that are refreshing and fit into our agenda of pure family entertainment,' Kapoor told IANS. Among all the entertainment channels, SAB TV is hosting the maximum shows based on literary works. Their upcoming comedy Papad Pol - Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya is based on stories by reputed Gujarati humorist and stand-up comedian Shahabuddin Rathod.

Taarak Mehta Ka. Is based on Gujarati journalist Taarak Mehta's popular column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma and Lapataganj is a take-off on the writings of renowned Hindi satirist Sharad Joshi. The two shows have boosted SAB's TRPs like never before. It is mostly producers or channel officials who approach writers to convert their work into a TV show. Either they buy the rights of the book or engage the author to script the work to avoid straying from the theme.

Ved Prakash Sharma is scripting Keshav Pandit himself after being approached by producer Ekta Kapoor. 'I stay in Meerut.

But Ektaji called me and told me she wants to make a show on my novel Vijay Aur Keshav Pandit. She bought the rights of the book and asked me to script the show. I think it's a very healthy practice that novels are being converted into shows as writers get a wider platform and more readership,' Sharma told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Similarly, Gujarat-based Shahabuddin Rathod was approached by Vipul Shah, co-founder of production house Optimystix. 'Vipul is from my district and he is aware of my work.

When he told me he wants to present my stories in Hindi, I was very happy. I knew this will help my work in reaching out to more people rather than just Gujaratis,' said Rathod. Writers maintain the channels are taking care to stick to their original stories. 'They always consult me regarding the set up and portrayal of characters. They feel since I have written the story, I will be able to add authenticity to it,' added Rathod. In the past too, many directors and producers took inspiration from books for popular TV shows. Govind Nihalani's Tamas in 1987 was based on an eponymous book by Sahitya Akademi winner Bhishma Sahni and acclaimed filmmaker Shyam Benegal's Katha Sagar depicted short stories by renowned writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekov among others.

Benegal's 53-episode series Bharat Ek Khoj was also based on Jawaharlal Nehru's book Discovery Of India. Actress-turned-producer Manju Singh, known for playing Amol Palekar's sister in Golmaal, also brought short stories to TV with Ek Kahani. Malgudi Days, one of the most popular shows on Doordarshan, was based on the works of R.K.

It was first made in 1986, and re-telecast on other channels subsequently. The show was revived in 2004 by a new director. In the 1980s, literary works were dominating Indian television with shows like Sujata Mehta and Farooq Shaikh-starred Shrikant, based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyaya's novel Shrikanto; Satyajit Ray's detective series Feluda; Mr.Yogi based on Gujarati novel Kimball Ravenswood; and Wagle Ki Duniya' based on R.K Laxman's popular cartoon character, The Common Man. In the 1990s and later, the trend started diminishing from small screen.

A few literature-based works like Hasratein and Resham Dunk were aired. While Hasratein went on to be an extremely popular show, Resham Dunk was taken off air soon. The extremely popular show titled Viraasat used to be aired on the Star One channel. The serial Viraasat is believed to be one of the biggest television ventures of the B.R. Films and went on air from 12th June in the year 2006.

The serial Viraasat in fact gave a tough competition to all the typical `saans-bahu` flicks that are currently aired on almost all the channels of the small screen.Viraasat was brought in the place of another hugely hit show `Millie` which was again a story with difference. It was in fact more popular because of the multi-starrer attraction including almost all the popular actors of the telly world Sangeeta Ghosh, Aman Verma, Jayati Bhatia, Amarr Upadhayay, Kiran Kumar, Deepak Quazir and the likes. The storyline of Viraasat however revolves on the enmity between the two opulent and well-known families, the Lambas and the Kharbandas. However the development of the plot takes a major turn when the two children of the respective families Rahul (played by Rohit Roy) and Priyanka (played by Sangeeta Ghosh) fell head over heels in love with each other and get married on the same day on which Priyanka was supposed to get involved in a wedlock with another man that her family has selected for her. Both Rahul and Priyanka get married in a temple and vowed to end the enmity between their families. When the couple returns back home and their family is taken aback by the intensity of their decisions.

However Rahul`s family accepts the couple and blesses them for future. But Rishabh Lamba (played by Aman Verma) cannot accept the alliance from the core of his heart and tries to create problems in the marital life of his brother but fails to succeed at any cost. As the plot develops Priyanka is seen to be giving birth to twins and promises to give one to his childless sister-in-law.

Gradually both the families decided to end their enmity on the occasion of Diwali. Yatin Dang and Arvind Babbal jointly directed the family entertainer Viraasat. The screenplay of the soap is also brilliant and is set in quite flamboyant sets. The development of the Viraasat story is also quite intriguing and never ceases to make the television viewers loose their interests. According to the Creative Director of Star India Shailija Kejriwal the title song of Viraasat is also well suited to the plot of the soap.

It does not come as a surprise to the audience that the soap Viraasat is placed among the top of the ratings chart and comes within the tenth position. Over all this family entertainer is great to watch and such shows will provide some sort of relief from the monotonous saga of the family dramas.

Viraasat was also publicized as a soap that would provide beckon to all other television soaps. The small screen audiences expect such great entertainers at frequent intervals and hopefully the makers will cook up something like this in the near future with a new plot full of contrasting twists and turns. They come together at a certain point of time, interact with each other for a while, and finally head towards their individual destinations. These three women are basically from ordinary middle class backgrounds. One is ‘Anu’, a young 19 year old girl who has completed her B.A. And wants to launch herself in a career.

She wants to become an airhostess but the family dose not approve. She is in love with a boy called Vicky who is also averse to the idea of her working for the airlines. The girl finds herself at a point where she is torn between family, boyfriend and a world which she wants to reach out to. Our second character is a young married woman called ‘Naashi’ she is a 33 year old house wife with a baby of one year, a boy called ‘Manu’. She is questioning the very institution of marriage. She has married ‘Mahesh’ some one of her choice, which had been arranged by the family.

She had been a brilliant student and had given up a short exciting carrier in ‘theatre’ and ‘literature’ to settle down with a man who she thought was Mr. Today she finds a total break down of communication between her and her husband. She resents being caught up in a situation where she is simply role playing, going through the technicalities of being wife and mother, minus any real feelings. She is looking for the romance which she dreamt would be there in marriage. She wants togetherness, warmth, sharing. She is looking for equality between man and woman. The third character ‘Mrs.

Joshi’ is a tender woman of 60, who has gone through the entire gamut of being a dutiful daughter, ideal wife and wonderful mother, all very effectively. She has a married daughter ‘Preeti’ with three kids, and an older son called ‘Bobby’ well settled in ‘Canada’. All her life she has tried to fit in perfectly into the images set for her by other people. Now at 60, she wants to know who she really is. Suddenly one day she discovers that her husband, for the past 40 years, has been involved with another woman. Joshi’ is shocked, humiliated, cheated, and broken down. She cannot reconcile with this.

She doesn’t want to live with her husband anymore. Her grown up children try to persuade her not to take such a step, since a major part of her life has already been spent with her husband and moreover, the other woman is now dead. Joshi’ cannot come to terms with the fact that all her life she dedicated to a marriage and home which was only a convenient arrangement.

She shocks every one by leaving home, and starting her life all over again. Through this serial, we will be able to explore many facets of Indian womanhood. It is our objective to convey an anti-male and a feminist view point. It will be essentially an honest human interaction, creating a lot of space for discussion and dialogue.

Our motive is not to encourage rejection of tradition and convention, but to create a balance between independence and established social norms, for a harmonies living in today’s modern world. As we proceed with these three characters coming to terms with there respective situations, we find that after a lot of conflict, the young girl ‘Anu’ chooses to forego the idea of getting married for the time being. She decides to pursue the carrier of her choice and become financially independent. She is able to convince her family that it is important for her to stand on her own feet, before she jumps into the arena of life. ‘Naashi’ the young house wife has moved away from her husband, leaving the child behind. Once she goes her husband Mahesh realizes what she had meant to him and his child.

Now he goes all out to woo his wife back, and is willing to make all the necessary adjustments and also change his attitude towards her. ‘Naashi’ also realizes her shortcomings and now both are working towards making a stronger and more meaningful relationship between the two of them. Joshi’ who had been helpless women, always dependent on others, now shows great strength by walking out of the protection of a home and husband. She now wishes to do all those things that she had once dreamt of doing, but had forsaken for the sake of a home and children.

Joshi’ reaches out to his wife and towards the end the two of them are able to come close together as ‘real friends’ – a new equation with her husband. The story revolves around the main pivot of a young married couple in which Mahesh (Vinod Pandit) and Naashi (Deepti Naval) try to cope with a marriage under strain. Thoda sa Aasmaan sensitively explores human relationships examining the ‘role playing’ in a stereotyped middle class setup in the light of dreams and ambitions of various characters.

The husband comes through as a typical male even as the wife struggles to cope with the home and baby without getting even a few words of appreciation as reward. At the end of this episode a crisis point is reached as Naashi walks out suddenly in anger and tears leaving the man holding the baby. It is an interesting beginning. Director: T.S. It was distributed by Tsuburaya, Ultracom, DIC Entertainment, and All American Television, and ran for two seasons from September 12, 1994 to July 15, 1995 on ABC, as well as in syndication. It was an adaptation of the Japanese tokusatsu series Denkou Choujin Gridman which was produced by Tsuburaya Productions. The series was originally going to be named PowerBoy but was renamed Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad to avoid confusion with Saban Entertainment's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.1 Plot High school student Sam Collins is the head of a band (Team Samurai).

During a recording session, Sam is zapped by a power surge and disappears, only to reappear seconds later with a strange device attached to his wrist (which is at the time unremovable). Later, after his friends Amp, Sydney, and Tanker leave, one of his video game programs dubbed, 'Servo,' is subject to a power surge and zaps Sam again. This time, the zap pulls him into the digital world and turns him into his creation. As Servo, he roams the digital world and fights Monster 'Megaviruses'. Meanwhile Malcolm Frink, another student from Sam's school, is designing monsters on his home computer when Kilokahn (an escaped military Artificial Intelligence presumed dead in the power surge) visits Malcolm via computer screen. Kilokahn strikes a deal with Malcolm and turns his digital monster into a Monster Megavirus who is not only capable of corrupting electronics, but is also capable of affecting the real world. Sam, now as Servo, must enter the digital world and stop Malcolm's and Kilokahn's Megaviruses.

Sometimes, when Servo was unable to handle a virus by himself, he would call on the help of his friends using his Arsenal Programs. The Arsenal Programs could fight the viruses solo, transform (with the help of other Programs) and attach to Servo as armor. Since Team Samurai consisted of only 3 people at any one time (excluding Sam), only 3 vehicles were available at any one time. When Servo linked up with these Programs as armor, he changed his name to either 'Phormo' or 'Synchro' (when he combined with Drago or Xenon, respectively).
